Do you know the difference between servo motor and synchronous motor?Aug 21, 2024

What is the difference between servo motor and synchronous motor? I believe that many people do not understand, below i will explain it.

First of all, the concept is different, the servo motor is a closed-loop control motor with feedback, the motor is a squirrel cage, and there are several types of stator and rotor shapes. But synchronous motor is no feedback open loop motor. The rotor of a synchronous motor is permanent magnet. Ordinary three-phase AC motor rotor is no magnetic cage.
The servo motor can be an ordinary motor + encoder + servo driver. Eliminate motor slip by servo drive control. Therefore, whether there is a load or not, it is very accurate to achieve the desired speed or position. Synchronous motors may be synchronized under no-load, but they cannot be synchronized when the load exceeds a certain amount.
The servo motor is generally a permanent magnet synchronous motor that drives the X/Y/Z axis table on the CNC machine tool, and the motor has an absolute encoder or an incremental encoder behind it as position feedback. The spindle motor on the CNC machine tool also has an encoder, but the resolution is not as high as the resolution of the servo motor encoder, and because the performance requirements are not high, the squirrel cage asynchronous motor is generally used, so the cost can be lower.
Stepper motor and AC servo motor performance comparison Stepper motor is a discrete motion device, it and modern digital control technology has an essential relationship.
