The running-in period is an important link to ensure the normal operation of the reducer, reduce the failure rate and extend its service life.
1, wear speed is fast
Due to the influence of machining, assembling and debugging of the new reducer parts, the contact area of the mating surface is small, and the allowable torque is large. During the operation of the reducer, the convex and convex parts of the surface of the parts interact with each other, and the metal debris worn down as an abrasive continues to participate in friction, which accelerates the wear of the surface of the parts. Therefore, it is easy to cause wear of parts (especially the matching surface) during the running-in period, and the wear speed is too fast. At this time, if the overload operation, it may lead to the damage of parts, resulting in early failure.
2, poor lubrication
Due to the small clearance of the newly assembled parts, and due to assembly and other reasons, the lubricating oil (grease) is not easy to form a uniform oil film on the friction surface to prevent wear. Thus, the lubrication efficiency is reduced, resulting in early abnormal wear of the machine parts. In serious cases, it will cause scratches or bite on the friction surface of the precise fit, resulting in the occurrence of failures.

Newly processed and assembled parts, there is a deviation of geometric shape and matching size, in the early days of use, due to impact, vibration and other alternating loads, as well as heat, deformation and other factors, coupled with rapid wear and other reasons, it is easy to loosen the original fastening parts.
4. Leakage occurs
Due to the loosening of parts, vibration and the influence of heat on the reducer, there will be leakage on the sealing surface and pipe joints of the reducer. Some defects, such as casting, are difficult to find during assembly and debugging, but due to the vibration and impact of the operation process, this defect is exposed, manifested as leakage (seepage) of oil. Therefore, the running-in period will occasionally appear leakage phenomenon.
5, the operation mistakes
Due to the insufficient understanding of the structure and performance of the reducer (especially the new operator), it is easy to cause failure due to operational errors, and even cause mechanical accidents and safety accidents.
